The Junction Summer Solstice Festival, June 23rd
Stilt Walkers and Acrobats take over the Junction during celebrations of the longest day of the year!
Come join The Junction BIA and celebrate the year’s longest day during The Junction Summer Solstice Festival on Saturday, June 23rd, between 10 am and Midnight. This event will include fantastic entertainment, food and refreshments, as well as special events at participating businesses along Dundas Street West (Indian Grove to Quebec Ave.) and Keele Street (north of Dundas).
Wonder around the Junction and discover an array of entertainment, which will include Cirque performers, buskers, interactive family games, skateboarding show brought to you by SANCTION , several music performances, belly dancing show by Hip Kik Studios, exotic animal show by Tales and Scales Pet Boutique, movie screening of the ‘Midsummer’s Night Dream’ and more.
The businesses will stay open late to bring you artistic workshops, games, info sessions, sales, giveaways, competitions, presentations, music performances, health activities, and delectable foods.
One of the new additions to the Junction business community- Opticianado, will be unveiling the nation’s largest collection of Canadian Made Vintage Eyewear at the “The Canadian Made Vintage Jamboree”, while collaborating with SMASH and Russet & Empire in showcasing many other eclectic Canadian made Vintage pieces.
ARTiculations art supply Store will invite the public to take part in creating a collaborative mural installation that will slowly grow throughout the summer months in their window gallery. Above Ground art supply store will engage the public with their mask making workshop. Speaking of art, Williams Design on Keele Street will be hosting an art installation during the Junction Summer Solstice, while Latitude 44 Gallery will be transforming salvaged materials into art. Picture it Framed will have an art garden set up, as they host a draw for a mirror (worth $1000), courtesy of Home Life Response.
An exclusive treat, a tour of a soon to be opened Indie Alehouse, a sneak peak of the Junction’s new craft brewery and restaurant at 2876 Dundas St. West. Short guided tour 11 am to 1 pm.
In the mood for exotic attractions? Haveli Home, who will have a professional mehndi artist, between 12- 4pm, will present an all-natural and completely organic henna application. Just across the street from Keele Street, Tails and Scales will have exotic animal displays throughout the day in front of their store location.
With several music acts throughout the day, music will also be heard & performed inside the Junction Businesses. Visit Axis Grill for some live music during lunch hours, Agora Café for some live music in the afternoon, The Hole in the Wall for some live music in the evening, Pandemonium for a DJ set at their new location at 2920 Dundas St. West, and 3030 Dundas Street West for music throughout the day, as they serve up a special Junction Summer Solstice Menu and Cocktails.
What kind of a celebration it would be without some delicious treats? The Junction Restaurants and Cafes will be serving a variety of special delicacies. One of the most anticipated Junction Summer Solstice specials – authentic Greek cuisine at Shoxs, including a variety of homemade Greek dishes served from 2 pm to 9 pm. The Junction Summer Solstice will also bring many treats for health and well being, including Snap Fitness Mini Olympic Games, where everyone is welcome to participate, do your best to win prizes. Another recent addition to the Junction business community, Clary Sage Whole Health Studio will offer free mini treatments (15 minutes each): Shiatsu, Tui Na, and RMT massage, between 10:00 am-6:00 pm. RPM Total Fitness will be providing tours of the studio, running 15 minute class demo’s, handing out free class cards and a tones of fitness swag giveaways. The Center for Health and Well Being will have Dr. Tara providing a free “Tongue Diagnosis” as used in traditional Chinese medicine. The Loft pilates studio will have an open house, with great presentations and membership discounts available only June 23rd. The Earth Collection,the natural clothing store, will celebrate the solstice by wishing everyone a healthy and happy summer thus hosting info- sessions: ‘tips on sun safety’ and yogic sun solutions. Atlas Chiropractors will host info sessions on various topics of health and well being.
In the mood for some shopping? Several businesses will partake in a sidewalk sale. For Your Interiors (FYI) will have 50 % off everything in the store on this day only.
Family activities will be abundant at the Junction Summer Solstice. Kid Culture will celebrate the festivities with letter ‘P’: popcorn, pin wheels & prizes. Philippa C Photography will host ‘Letter Writing’ open house from 2pm to 5pm. Bunner’s will have cupcake decorating demonstrations throughout the day. Prive Hair will be offering feather and great length extensions in front of their Salon. Some face painting in front of the Raven Warrior Games.
Event the furry family friends will be entertained- with Tailwaggers presenting professional training tips, grooming tips, daycare info packages, dog treats and more.
Community Living Toronto, a miracle organization, which changes lives of people with intellectual disability, will bring an array of performances for the visitors to the Junction. These include dance and yoga demonstrations, choir performance, music recording session, as well as some art created by the community artisans. Be sure to visit them at 2934 Dundas St. West.
Another beautiful initiative is being organized by Snug as a Bug children’s clothing store, whereby all the proceeds from the Junction Summer Solstice Festival sidewalk sale will go to support a charity “Because I am a Girl”.
